I was born in Woodstock, Ontario, and grew up in London, where I’m still based and where my work has developed so far.
Before focusing on visual art, I was heavily involved in music. I started on trombone and later moved to bass guitar, spending years in school music programs and musical theatre. That led to opportunities like performing at the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in Cleveland.
After high school, I worked full-time in locksmithing. During slower periods on the job, I started sketching as a way to pass the time, which gradually became something I took more seriously.
That interest led to a period of self-directed learning through online platforms like Skillshare. Eventually, I reached a point where I needed more structure and guidance, which pushed me to return to school and commit to pursuing art more seriously.
In 2023, I was accepted into the Fine Art Foundations program at Fanshawe, where I explored a range of mediums and developed a strong foundation in studio practice. It was also where I connected with faculty who had a lasting impact on the direction of my work. During this time, I rediscovered photography, which has since become one of my more developed and reliable mediums.
I graduated with honours in 2024, receiving the James McNeill Award for Emerging Artists, and continued into Fanshawe’s Fine Arts advanced diploma program. Over the following two years, I participated in four group exhibitions with my cohort and gained a clearer understanding of how to navigate the art world as an emerging artist.
During that period, I began working with fibre and textile-based processes, which have become central to my current practice.
After graduating, I chose to stay in London and take time away from school to figure things out on my own terms and build a foundation outside of an academic setting.
I’m currently working full-time while continuing to develop new work in a shared studio with other emerging artists. Alongside that, I’m pursuing freelance photography and plan to keep expanding that part of my practice, including working with U.R.Proud and others within the LGBTQ+ community.
I’m also planning to volunteer with Forest City Gallery (and hopefully others) as a way to stay connected and contribute to the local arts community, which remains an important part of how I approach my work.
